For a Sing-a-Long Party
Do you have an idea for having a Sing-a-Long Party at your house with YOU playing the piano? We are looking for relatively easy songs (4-5 chords) to get started.
Music adds so much to a party and rather than just playing CD's all night, having people sing some of their favorite popular songs is an excellent way to bring people together.
I'll get the ball rolling with some songs that I have played myself at parties or get-togethers. Needless to say, it depends on what kind of party you are throwing and the age-range of you and your guests. I have played impromptu at many gatherings (whether I felt like it or not, after all I am the piano teacher!). Let me give you a "heads up" to some of the songs that get people singing. The songs I'm selecting are chosen for two reasons:
They are not too hard to play
Most people know the words
They are fun to sing
And trust me, you don't need to be able to play Billy Joel's "Piano Man" to play at a party!
"You Are My Sunshine" - Believe it or not, everyone knows this song and loves to sing it. And guess what, it's a cinch to play!
"Yellow Submarine" - This Beatles favorite is fun because it has a very catchy and playful chorus. Not everyone will know the verses but that's okay.
"Amazing Grace" - This classic spiritual is a favorite of mine. Again, not hard to play but feels so good to sing. This is a great song to play later in the evening, when people are feeling relaxed and at ease. Not a good song to get people to gather around the piano but an excellent, (I hate to say it) "feel good" song.
"Respect" - Everyone knows this by Aretha Franklin and will sing it out with gusto! You gotta have some R+B classics at your party. But you already know that, right?
"You've Got a Friend" - This James Taylor tune is a favorite of everyone's over the age of 30 I would say. A mellow song to be saved for a later spot in the evening.
So let's hear your ideas! Just fill out the form below and I will put your comments on the website as I get them!
