Playing Piano for a Sing-a-Long

Last weekend, I was invited to a party. This was a pretty big Christmas party with lots of people who were very dressed up. Well, the hostess knew I played piano because I teach two of her children. She asked if I'd like to play a Christmas song. There was no music up until then.

I sat at the piano with another woman who promised she would sing if I played. From the moment I started playing, people were gathering in the living room where I was playing. I started playing at 11:30PM and didn't stop until 2:30AM. It was such fun.

I must say that people who I've known for years but had never seen really having fun, enjoying themselves and smiling, were doing just that. I couldn't believe my eyes. They were singing, taking videos, requesting Neil Diamond and Billy Joel songs and were completely free.

Now, to be honest, there was alcohol involved BUT without the music, the connection with other people wouldn't have happened in that way. I was so amazed by how music, piano and singing, brought people together and opened their hearts to one another.

Maybe one of your New Year's resolutions can be to get those piano chops in order, learn those chords and invite your friends over for a sing-a-long. You and they will have more fun than you can imagine. And you'll see people in a very different light.
